Tofo is 1 100kms from Johannesburg and 690kms from Nelspruit. The Maputo Corridor provides a very good highway, the N4 from Johannesburg to Maputo. It is worth considering an overnight stop if travelling from Johannesburg. The travel from Nelspruit to Tofo takes approximately 9 – 10 hours (depending on the border crossing and traffic). It is advisable to fill up with petrol just before the border post. You will cross the border at Lembombo/Ressano Garcia. South Africans do not need a visa but most international visitors do. You will need to purchase third party insurance for your motor car – this can be done at the border and at various travel agencies including Travel Experience stores.

Toll fees from Johannesburg in South Africa amount to R 155.00 and in Mozambique there are 2 toll gates costing ?? meticais. You can use rands, dollars or meticais to pay the Mozambican tolls, no cards are accepted.

From Maputo take the EN1 north to Xai Xai. It is advisable to fill up with petrol at Xai Xai. Continue driving north after Xai Xai, the road is in very good condition. At Lindela the road splits. Turn right onto the Inhambane road and continue for about 50kms on to the city of Inhambane. Continue through the city of Inhambane following the signs to Tofo. The stretch between Inhambane and Tofo is about 25kms and is narrow and can be potholed, so drive carefully. You will reach an intersection and continue towards your right past Bar Babalaza. Follow the road for about 10kms and you will enter Tofo. Look out for a road on your right with signs that include ??? Turn right up this road, drive straight up for ?? m and you will see the parking area for Casa de Beija Flor.

It is not advisable to travel at night time as there are no streetlights, some vehicles are not roadworthy and lack headlights and there is a constant stream of cyclists and pedestrians on the road.
