Guest Reviews
Lovely just-before-season visit
Visited early November 2016. The whole process - booking, arriving and on-site assistance - was great. Melanie and Antonio were on hand to ensure that everything was in order, and provided assistance with suggestions and excursion options. The houses are set high up, which allows for a great sea breeze throughout the day. This is perfect to avoid mosquitoes!
The onsite facilities were more than adequate, including cooking and braaiing/barbecuing options, which was great for people not wanting to eat out every meal.
Idyllic beach holiday
Our stay at Casa de Beija Flor was idyllic - we spent a week there in August with our 2 teenage daughters. Having no access to TV or wifi, was an excellent way to press the family "reset" button and fully appreciate our time together. Casa de Beija Flor is perfectly situated within walking access to the beach as well as Tofo's high street and bustling market area. Plenty of activities and nearby restaurants kept us busy and entertained. The accommodation was clean and well maintained. The shower was great and there was plenty of hot water. The casitas have everything you need for a beach holiday!
Lovely place to stay in Tofo
Casa de Beija Flor is a beautiful place to stay. The casita is within walking distance from the amazing Tofo beach. The manager Melanie was there when we arrived on a Sunday to welcome us. We loved to sit on the veranda - we even saw Whales breaching from there! July was most perfect to spend some days on the beach. Almost no moskitos and perfect weather. The walk-in moskito net in the casita made it is to be safe of getting bitten. Staying there one can feel that the owner built the casita with lots of inspiration and dedication to Tofo.

The owners and creators of this chill out spot, Kirst and Chris, fell in love with Tofo after their first visit in 2004. We dreamt of a holiday spot that would accommodate a small intimate group of friends and family. Casa de Beija Flor (House of the Flower Kisser) was so named as the rare Neergaard’s Sunbird was identified on the site we chose to fulfill our dream.
Our two cassitas (traditional thatched roof houses) can each comfortably accommodate 4 people. The cassistas are self catering to take advantage of the fresh seafood available at the local market.
The cassitas are 300m from Tofino beach and 400m from Tofo main beach and market.
Please email us at casadebeijaflor@gmail.com in the interim.
Getting There
Self-drive
Tofo is 1 100kms from Johannesburg and 690kms from Nelspruit. The Maputo Corridor provides a very good highway, the N4 from Johannesburg to Maputo. It is worth considering an overnight stop if travelling from Johannesburg. The travel from Nelspruit to Tofo takes approximately 9 – 10 hours (depending on the border crossing and traffic). It is advisable to fill up with petrol just before the border post. You will cross the border at Lembombo/Ressano Garcia. South Africans do not need a visa but most international visitors do. You will need to purchase third party insurance for your motor car – this can be done at the border and at various travel agencies including Travel Experience stores.
Toll fees from Johannesburg in South Africa amount to R 155.00 and in Mozambique there are 2 toll gates costing ?? meticais. You can use rands, dollars or meticais to pay the Mozambican tolls, no cards are accepted.
From Maputo take the EN1 north to Xai Xai. It is advisable to fill up with petrol at Xai Xai. Continue driving north after Xai Xai, the road is in very good condition. At Lindela the road splits. Turn right onto the Inhambane road and continue for about 50kms on to the city of Inhambane. Continue through the city of Inhambane following the signs to Tofo. The stretch between Inhambane and Tofo is about 25kms and is narrow and can be potholed, so drive carefully. You will reach an intersection and continue towards your right past Bar Babalaza. Follow the road for about 10kms and you will enter Tofo. Look out for a road on your right with signs that include ??? Turn right up this road, drive straight up for ?? m and you will see the parking area for Casa de Beija Flor.
It is not advisable to travel at night time as there are no streetlights, some vehicles are not roadworthy and lack headlights and there is a constant stream of cyclists and pedestrians on the road.
